Notice regarding unauthorized access to hostel guests’ personal data


This is to notify you that FASTBOOKING Japan K.K. (a subsidiary of the French company FASTBOOKING) has been subject to unauthorized access by a third party, resulting in personal data stored by them being compromised. FASTBOOKING provides our hostel’s reservation system.

 

There has been no report of personal data being misused or other damage so far.
Details are as follows.

 

  1. Information subject to unauthorized access

    Customers who booked through our hostel website between May 2017 and June 2018 have been affected.

    - guest name & nationality
    - postal code & address
    - email
    - booking number, price and hostel name
    - check-in & check-out date

    *Our guests’ credit card information was not compromised. Our hostel was affected by Incident 1 as described in the following report from FASTBOOKING.

  1. Our response to our guests

    We have contacted affected guests via email with an explanation and apology.
  1. Measures to prevent recurrence

    We are improving our personal data management and strengthening our system security. We have also demanded that FASTBOOKING Japan K.K. ensure they make improvements for system security and promptly take effective measures accordingly.

 

 

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this matter.

We have already submitted our report to the Japanese government’s Personal Information Protection Commission.
